Enjoy a slice of Norfolk’s food and drink this summer
If you love good food and drink, Norfolk is the place to be this summer with fabulous new openings and events to savour the flavours of the brightest season.
West Norfolk Food & Drink Festival, Hunstanton
Following the success of its first event, held in March, Hunstanton’s Mark and Rosie Kacary, owners of The Norfolk Deli and its sister café, have organised the West Norfolk Food and Drink Festival which takes place from 10am-3pm on Sunday 16 June. Billed as, ‘A celebration of local flavours, community spirit and the simple joys of exploration and discovery,’ the free event is set to take over the High Street with stallholders including Duration Brewing, Mushroomery, The Norfolk Pie Company, Heather’s Kettle Corn and M&M Sweet Treats. There will also be a street food area with Surfing Sombrero burritos, Pura Vida paellas, Chinese snacks from the Great Wall and cooling treats from Dann’s Ice Cream. Come hungry and ready to sip, taste and enjoy a smorgasbord of goodies from local makers – it’s going to be good!
The Royal Norfolk Show, Norwich
Later in the month, the Royal Norfolk Show takes place on 26-27 June at the Norfolk Showground in Norwich. Organised by The Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, as you might imagine, food and drink forms a centrepiece to the show with Suffolk-based Adnams sponsoring an emporium of more than 100 producers, many with delicious samples to enjoy as you browse the marquees! Norfolk favourite Woodforde’s Brewery will also be at the event, serving up its award winning beers and ales including the famous Wherry and Nelson’s, named after one of the county’s famous sons. While slightly further afield from Heacham Manor, the event is the largest agricultural show in the country and makes a brilliant day out, so do plan a visit if the dates coincide with your stay.
North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival, Holkham
Later still in the season, Holkham brings together Norfolk’s food and drink family with the annual North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival on 31 August-1 September which takes place in the estate’s gorgeous Walled Garden. Now in its 15th year, the ever-growing festival is a real showcase event with a cornucopia of locally grown produce, meat, baked goods and sweet treats, along with a tipple or two to wash it all down. There’s a live cookery theatre, street food and plenty of family fun including children’s activities and face painting to keep everyone feeling jolly. Even if you aren’t able to make the show, Holkham runs its Feast in the Park from 15 July-29 August, with street food served daily and a peak of stands at the weekend accompanied by live music – sitting watching the stunning parkland vista as you tuck into a tasty bite and listen to the band, summer life doesn’t get much better!
